One close friend of mine has suffered from depression. In his case, it has come up to him from time to time (Can I say "seasonal depression?"). I hadn't felt pretty much that he has been struggling with it, but one day he told me about his problem. When his symptom was at peak, he met a psychiatrist and was prescribed pills for depression. He, once taking the pill, felt better but instead lost his appetite. He said that it was much harder for him to be off his food. So, he stop taking medicine. Now he feels much better and almost gets over it. Assuming that he went over hard times to get over his depression without informing others of it, I think I could've helped him get over his problem if I had known it earlier. Now I am trying to be all ears when he speaks. For your relative, the fact that you are with him will be helpful. I hope you together can wisely get over it.
